For the past four years, South Melbourne Market is proud to have hosted Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, raising over $20,000 for Cancer Council Victoria. Sadly we are unable to host an event this year, so we are encouraging our community to host their own Biggest Morning Tea, either virtually, or with a couple of close friends and family at home. Every dollar you raise will help fund Cancer Council’s life-saving research, prevention, support programs and information.
This is a really difficult time for many of us as COVID-19 continues to affect our daily lives. But the pandemic is making it especially tough for people living with cancer. With many fundraising events being cancelled, volunteers unable to work and some people facing financial instability, providing ongoing support to those impacted by cancer is critical at this time more than ever.
To help you plan your perfect morning tea, we’ve put together a list of delicious treats courtesy of our Market traders. We’ve also got some great recipes – perfect for those who are keen to do some baking at home! So, set up your fundraising page and start planning your event. There’s also loads of tips, tools and resources from the Cancer Council to help get you started.
Don’t forget, our Order & Collect Service is available for those who prefer not to come inside the Market. Simply place your order with our participating traders and drive through to collect your goods each week.
Pick up a great range of muffins, sandwiches, smoothies & juices at this little oasis in the heart of the Market Food Hall.
If French pastries are your thing, you can’t go past Agathe Patisserie. You’ll be spoilt for choice with a large array of cakes, savouries and beautiful fresh baguettes.
St George’s Bakery
St George’s Bakery is a genuine sourdough bakery producing a range of breads and baked goods. Pick up a loaf of Danish Rye (perfect for chicken sandwiches), a juicy fruit loaf and delicious flaky croissants.
A stall devoted entirely to sweet treats! There’s cupcakes, meringues, macaroons and more, with gluten free and vegan options also available.
Impress your guests with a fancy cheese board and head to Pick-a-Deli for a large range of local and international gourmet cheeses. While you’re there, why not grab a Portuguese tart – we bet it won’t make the distance home!
Pieno Di Grazia
Your perfect one-stop-shop for your morning tea goodies. Pieno Di Grazia has everything you need for your event including traditional Italian cakes, pastries, pizza and take-home meals.
Tea Drop sources the world’s most scrumptious tea leaves, fruits, herbs and spices and painstakingly blends over 100 flavours of tea. Market favourites include the South Melbourne Breakfast tea, the micro cold-brewed nitrogen iced tea, and the Malabar Chai which is ‘spiced, creamy and delicious, like a warming hug’.
If baking is your thing, be the envy of your guests and cook up a storm using recipes and ingredients from some of our Market stallholders:
Brad’s Banana, Date and Walnut Loaf – Canteen
This recipe comes to us courtesy of Bradley Johnston, owner of Canteen. It’s a customer favourite and sells out fast, so if you can’t buy it in-store, have a go at making it instead.
Dark Chocolate Mousse – Atypic Chocolate
This delicious chocolate mousse recipe comes to us from our resident chocolatier, Charles Lemai. This recipe uses his organic Haiti 70% dark chocolate made in Charles’ very own chocolate factory.
