As the weather turns cool, staying nice and cosy with a great meal at home becomes more and more appealing. But when dinner and a movie get dull, here are some fun date night ideas for couples – whether living together or apart.
Cook up some romance
Pick a Market recipe, shop for the ingredients at the Market* and immerse yourselves in the culture of the cuisine. For instance, get in a Mexican mood by preparing Pata de Cordero together – it takes a few hours to cook, so enjoy a game or two with Spanish Playing Cards from The SuperCool over some Watermelon Agua Fresca and corn chips with Guacamole while you wait. Set the table with fresh flowers from Azalea and Mexican candlesticks from Market Import and enjoy!
Let your love grow
Gardening isn’t often top of mind when it comes to date activities, but current quarantining measures are throwing out all the rule books. And besides, it means you can get dirty together (in a green, eco-friendly way, of course!). If you live together and have a backyard, call or SMS Jeff from PJ Plants on 0488 447 708 to check what’s available and to place an order for the Market’s Order & Collect service and get digging! Couples living separately can each order a DIY terrarium kit from Terrarium Laboratory and assemble them over a video call – competitive types can order exactly the same kit and see how differently creations turn out.
For couples living apart, why not send each other a gift pack from The Australian Natural Soap Company? Otherwise, it’s a good time to practise the art of relaxing massage, so grab some organic coconut oil from Coconut Revolution and a towel with a tropical vibe from The SuperCool and take turns to de-stress (don’t forget to set the scene with a scented candle or diffusers such as these ones from YakedyYak). Or turn your bathroom into a day spa and prepare your skin for the months ahead with gentle brushing (try this face brush from Merchants of Change), exfoliation (Elementary Skincare’s scrubs smell good enough to eat!) and a soak in the tub with bath salts from Ruby & Sky.
Pack a picnic basket and head into the garden for some fresh-air dining – or if the air’s a bit too fresh out there, the lounge room might be a better option. Spread out a rug (or a throw from La Sierra) and enjoy cheese and crackers from Emerald Deli and some wine from Swords (give Anthony a call on 0413 489 596 or email Brendon to place an order). Games of frisbee and other typical outdoor activities might be tricky, but you can always order mini table tennis or magnetic darts from Spin or start on a puzzle ordered from Create tbt.
Sweat it out
A walk or run together is an easy way to exercise and spend time with each other, but if you’re apart, sync your watches and choose a fitness session you can both do online. There are plenty of free workouts online and via apps, such as yoga classes. If you need to get your home yoga studio sorted, Luna & Soul has women’s organic cotton active wear as well as cork and rubber mats, cork blocks and rollers, and The SuperCool has oil diffusers, essential oil burners and candles.
…And if you really do need a lazy night in with Netflix, plenty of traders have ready-made meal delivery available, so browse through their offers here. Long live love, especially in lockdown!
