When Sicilian migrant and artisan cheesemaker, Giorgio Linguanti, came up with the idea of opening a ‘pop-up’ cannoli-only store at South Melbourne Market a year ago, some feared a store specialising in just one product – albeit Sicily’s favourite dessert – wouldn’t work.
But under the passionate direction of talented chef, Dario Di Clerico, the pair behind Cannoleria by That’s Amore have proved the naysayers wrong.
Visitors to the South Melbourne Market cannot get enough of the sweet-tasting, handmade cannoli – delicate tubes of golden, crunchy pastry filled with Linguanti’s freshly made That’s Amore ricotta, and will be opening a permanent stall in Aisle B on Friday 30 August. And to celebrate, they’ll be giving away a free mini cannolo to visitors between 10am and 12pm!
“We are super excited to mark our permanence at South Melbourne Market with the opening of our brand new fixed store,” says chef Dario Di Clerico. “We always believed the South Melbourne Market was the perfect place for such an innovative concept and we weren’t wrong,” he says. “Despite the odds and many people thinking that a store specialising in only one product wouldn’t work, the response to our three-month pop-up was overwhelming.”
Cannoleria by That’s Amore’s award-winning cannoli are freshly filled using only the highest-quality ingredients, including in-house made ricotta and ethically sourced, seasonal produce to create an endless variety of flavours. Their classic Sicilian cannoli recently won a gold medal at the 2019 Dairy Industry Association of Australia Product Competition in the Dairy Dessert category. While some of the more innovative flavours on offer include pistachio, limoncello, honeycomb and rocher cannoli, as well as cannoli kits, so people can make their own cannoli at home.
Visit Cannoleria on Friday 30 August between 10am and 12pm to receive one free mini cannolo per person and celebrate the opening of their new permanent outlet at Stall 72, Aisle B (opposite Padre Coffee).
