What is the Port Phillip Mussel & Jazz Festival (PPMJF)?
Celebrating it’s 7th birthday in 2020, the Port Phillip Mussel & Jazz Festival is presented by the South Melbourne Market. Over the Labour Day long weekend in March, expect a great mussel cook-up from the iconic local restaurants and amazing street food vendors! All to the sounds of Dixieland and New Orleans Jazz!

When is the PPMJF?
The Festival will take place from midday on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 March 2020.

Can I apply to participate at the next PPMJF?
Yes! Applications for food vendors are now open. If interested in playing at the event, hosting an activity or providing entertainment, send us an email with details to smm@portphillip.vic.gov.au.

Where is PPMJF?
PPMJF is located at the South Melbourne Market on Cecil Street. Cecil Street is closed to traffic from Coventry Street to York Street for the event. Please visit ptv.vic.gov.au for public transport details, including bus route changes.

Is the South Melbourne Market open?
The South Melbourne Market will retain normal trading hours on the weekend, opening at 8am and closing at 4pm on both days. Some traders located on Cecil Street may trade longer hours for the festival.

What happens at PPMJF?
Sit back and listen to Melbourne’s best jazz, graze from the amazing seafood stalls, and sip the refreshing sangria, beer and wine on offer at the bar.

Who will be serving food at PPMJF?
All Cecil Street restaurants (Bambu, Claypots Evening Star, Simply Spanish, Koy and Paco Y Lola) will be open as normal, and will also be providing amazing mussel dishes from pop-up marquees on Cecil Street. They’ll be joined by chefs from other well-known Melbourne restaurants all serving up their own take on mussels!

Weather?
The PPMJF will still take place rain, hail or shine. There is plenty of undercover areas and umbrellas to shelter from the rain. Please remember your sunscreen and hat.
