Filming and Photography

Since 1867, the South Melbourne Market has been a treasured inner city landmark and a favourite amongst locals and visitors.

Thanks to its history, eclectic variety of stalls, colourful fresh produce and bustling atmosphere, the Market is a popular location for filming and photography.

While we welcome media, the South Melbourne Market is proudly owned and operated by the City of Port Phillip. Anyone wishing to film or photograph at the Market will need to adhere to the City of Port Phillip Filming Guidelines and Application.

Filming within the municipality includes:

  • television
  • feature films
  • advertising
  • student film projects
  • documentaries
  • music videos
  • commercial stills photography.

Please Note: filming without a permit is subject to penalty and immediate evacuation from the location. The time frame for the issue of permits correlates to the location and the activity's potential impact on the amenity of residents, traders, customers and traffic.

For more information about filming at the Market please contact Meagan Scott, Marketing Coordinator South Melbourne Market, on meagan.scott@portphillip.vic.gov.au
