Getting to Know Casey Brimble
This month we caught up with Casey Brimble, the founder of 100% recycled clothing brand, Remedy Clothing.
What inspired you to set up your business?
Like most Melbournians, I had a lot of thinking time during the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021. I have worked and owned a business in the retail industry and wanted to create a brand that had a positive impact on the environment whilst maintaining the look and feel of clothing currently available on the market.
There aren’t any other brands making their clothing from 100% recycled materials and I believe we are at the forefront of truly sustainable clothing in Australia, if not the world. We registered the business in February 2021 and in July 2021 we launched our first collection of winter items.
How do you source all the materials?
We have identified three critical certifications to operate under:
At the moment, there aren’t any manufacturers certified under GRS in Australia so we have to source all our materials from overseas markets. However, we are in the process of becoming GRS certified (as a brand) and hope to become certified as an Australian manufacturer within 3-5 years.
With all of our material inputs (fabric, threads, zippers, buttons etc) being 100% recycled, we have to source and manufacture from all around the world. Some of these places include India, Pakistan, Taiwan, China & Hong Kong.
Have you always been in retail or have you had different jobs?
Prior to working for Remedy full time, I co-founded a fashion hiring platform. That business supported me through university but after I graduated, I wanted to take the next step and make a real impact which is why I started the brand.
Describe your products and how they are ethical and sustainable.
First and foremost, our entire product range is made from 100% recycled materials. This includes the fabrics, threads, embroidery, labels, swing tags and packaging. Even our store at South Melbourne Market has been made from recycled and upcycled materials (old floorboards and stillages).
Second, we have a take-back guarantee with all our items. That is, we make a commitment to all of our customers that at the end of the lifecycle of our product(s) they can send them back to us and we will recycle them again.
Finally, by operating under the GRS, Bluesign and Fairtrade certifications we ensure our products are 100% recycled, don’t use harmful chemicals and employees are paid fair wages.

Do you have a favourite recipe you can share with our readers?
Being a small business owner I don’t get a lot of time to cook at home. I thoroughly recommend ‘Small Town Pie Co’ and ‘The Fresh Pasta Shop’ at the Market!
